Mosaics of Mexico Tour - August 20th-27th, 2010

Art & Soul Tours and Philadelphia's Magic Gardens invite you to join us on a seven-day Mosaic Extravaganza through Mexico.

From pre-Columbian times to the present, Mexico has a strong tradition of using tesserae to create mosaics. Join Deb & Julia from Art & Soul Tours and Isaiah Zagar, founder of Philadelphia's PMG for an in depth, insiders look at this exciting and vital artform. Traveling in a small group, we'll visit some of our favorite destinations; Mexico City, Cuernavaca, Taxco and Puebla.

Begin your tour in historic Mexico City, with visits to the Juan O'Gorman Library, the Pyramids, the Anthropology Museum, and the Floating Gardens of Xochimilco, as well as a side trip to the marvelous Tepotzlan market.

Next, accompany your tour leaders to the Perdomo Studio in Cuernavaca that has been producing mosaics for the past 60 years. A day trip to Taxco, the silver capital of Mexico will provide opportunities to shop and explore the breathtaking Santa Prisca Cathedral. In Cuernavaca you'll visit to the eccentric Brady Museum boasting thousands of Mexican colonial statutes, furniture, pre-Hispanic objects and other international treasures.

Finish the trip in the mosaic encrusted city of Puebla, where you'll visit the famous Uriarte workshop and Museum. You'll wrap up the tour with a leisurely day in Mexico City ending with a farewell dinner.

Don't delay: this unique opportunity is limited to 20 people. Reserve today by sending a deposit of $500 made payable to Art and Soul Tours, paired with your completed reservation form to NOMAD, 1741 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA 02140. Art & Soul of Turkey

May 8th-18th, 2010

Hello Art & Soul Travelers,
We hope you will join us on our 2011 Turkish Delights Art & Soul Tour.

Deb and Julia have partnered with an amazing team to show you the best of historical and cultural Turkey, with a focus on local and traditional arts, textiles, cuisine, music, and architecture. This is going to be a very special trip where you will get a real insiders look at this intriguing and atmospheric culture.

Canadian born and raised, Leah Mortensen, has spent the past nine years calling herself an Istanbulite. Trained as a chef, she left the kitchen to join her family business of custom shopping for old and antique carpets and textiles. Interested in the "hunt" with no shop too grand or too humble, she scours the bazaars and back streets of the Old City. She provides visitors with and insider's view of the trade that is up close, intimate and unique. Her passion for design, aesthetics, and tradition transform a visitor's experience in the carpet and art culture from confusion to clarity. She will be bringing us her special knowledge of textiles, food, not to mention bringing us to all of her favorite venders discovered over the past nine years.

Mehmet Ozbalci is a certified Turkish historical tour guide with over two decades of experience guiding in Turkey. Not only is Mehmet a fountain of knowledge about Turkey and its wonderful history, he is a caring, patient, engaging individual who will take good care of us.

B.A. Hewitt, an American now living in Istanbul, is a long time friend of Deb and Julia's. She is an internationally known textile merchant with exquisite taste. She will be hosting us for a cocktail party in her beautiful home where we can see her private collection, and later visit her stunning shop TULU.
